SP2.4 Information Security and Privacy

In this subprogram, security and privacy aspects related to the distributed Grid infrastructure that underlies VL-e are studied. A central question is:
"How can we run sensitive applications on a distributed system which spans different -possibly untrusted- administrative domains?".

This question triggers many technical questions related to data and system protection. It becomes is particularly challenging when the information in question is privacy-sensitive in nature, as may be the case for medical imaging research data (see SP 1.3).

Solutions studied in SP2.4 range from technical and organizational - for example by designing mechanisms to allow scientists to reason over security aspects of the underlying system, such that they can establish to what degree they trust this system - to theoretical, for example by modeling a de-identification mechanism used for medical data so that we can determine the level of privacy provided by this mechanism.
