The aim of the subprogramme is to study the roles of grid-enabled VR environments for efficient and effective analysis of large, complex, time-dependent 3D data sets and to build and implement them. There are two aspects to this aim. Firstly, we will study the role the Grid can have with regard to interactive visualization architectures, including the mapping of Grid resources onto various stages of the visualization pipeline. Secondly, we will study novel visualization techniques and interactive 3D interfaces which adhere to the requirements of Grid enabled applications. Special emphasis will be placed on the scalability of these techniques.
