Problem-Solving Environments (PSEs) are domain-specific, virtual-laboratory execution systems that support scientific computing on the Grid. We will design a PSE architecture that supports the HPC and HTC modes of computing on the Grid, including dynamic interaction and computational steering. This interactive PSE (iPSE) will employ adaptive algorithms to ensure performance and response on the dynamically changing Grid. Our emphasis will be on the development of a generic architecture for a grid-enabled iPSE with interactive steering capabilities.
Within this generic iPSE architecture, we will examine a number of approaches, including tightly coupled, application domain specific PSEs and component-based environments using existing software.Partners
